Introduced in 1992, the EMD SD70M is a powerful 4,000 horsepower diesel locomotive featuring EMD’s innovative HTCR-II radial truck design. This steerable truck system allowed the locomotive to transfer power more efficiently to the rails, enabling two SD70M units to haul the same load that would have required three SD40-2 locomotives.

The SD70M, the DC counterpart to the SD70MAC, was primarily used for heavy coal train operations, taking full advantage of its exceptional pulling capacity and reliability.
