DetailsThe Dugald Drummond-designed 'M7' 0-4-4T locomotive was developed as a powerful successor to the older Adams 'T1' Class, serving London suburban passenger routes on the LSWR. A total of 105 locomotives were constructed between 1897 and 1911 at Nine Elms and Eastleigh. Locomotive No. 318 entered service in August 1900, retaining its number through the Southern Railway era and becoming 30318 under British Railways in 1950. After nearly six decades of operation, it was withdrawn in December 1959 and subsequently scrapped. This iconic engine remains celebrated for its contribution to suburban railway services and is a favourite among enthusiasts and model collectors. |
