DetailsThe T 478.3 series, famously nicknamed "Diving Goggles" or "Spectacle Snake" due to its distinctive front design, was developed and built at CKD in Prague. The first prototypes appeared in 1968, showcasing a bold and recognisable silhouette that would become iconic in Czechoslovak railway history. A total of 408 locomotives were produced, serving a wide range of duties. These versatile diesel-electric engines were employed on both passenger and freight services, and they also handled construction train operations, demonstrating their strength, reliability, and adaptability across the network. Renowned for their striking appearance and dependable performance, the T 478.3 locomotives remain a celebrated example of mid-20th-century Czechoslovak diesel-electric engineering. |
