DetailsThe rapid modernisation of the Austrian electric locomotive fleet began with the introduction of the first "Taurus" locomotives, series 1016, in the summer of 1999. A two-system version was also procured for AC operation at 15 kV/16.7 Hz and 25 kV/50 Hz. By 2006, a total of 282 locomotives of series 1116 had entered service, capable of reaching speeds of 230 km/h and delivering an impressive 6,400 kW of power. Integral to European long-distance services, the Railjet connects major Austrian cities with international destinations. Locomotives 1116.201–251 were modified at Siemens in Munich for Railjet operations starting in December 2008, with 1116.238 receiving the necessary equipment in May 2011, making this series a cornerstone of modern Austrian passenger rail transport. |
