DetailsThe modernisation of the Austrian electric locomotive fleet began with the introduction of the first "Taurus" locomotive, class 1016, in the summer of 1999. A dual-system version was also acquired for AC operation at 15 kV/16.7 Hz and 25 kV/50 Hz. By 2006, 282 class 1116 locomotives had entered service, capable of speeds up to 230 km/h and delivering 6,400 kW of power. In 2008, Rail Cargo Austria (RCA) acquired the freight division of Hungarian Railways (MAV Cargo Rt.), creating Rail Cargo Hungaria as part of the Rail Cargo Group. Locomotives 1116 001–034, 048, and 049 were assigned to Rail Cargo Hungaria for operations across its network, with 1116 014 equipped with the country package for Austria, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland, highlighting the series’ versatility and international reach. |
