G Scale Society Show 2019

Craig Weatherley

CRAIG WEATHERLEY reports back from this show in Nottingham.

With summertime fast approaching, it's time to dust off your garden railways. Back in 2018 the G Scale Society invited us to attend their 2019 show in Nottingham. It had been a while since Gaugemaster had been to a specifically large-scale show, but we felt that we now have enough exciting products to show off from the likes of Piko and Pola, as well as a raft of compatible products from other ranges.

Discussion turned to who would go, and as a G Scale modeller myself, I couldn’t turn it down. My colleague Matt Lovell (another G scale modeller) also jumped at the chance.

The show was last Sunday, 19th May. The stand was set up and once the show opened, we got down to helping our customers trying to sort any modelling issues they may have had, and of course showing off the many bargains that we had available.

During the course of the day I took a little while away from the stand to take a look at some of the amazing layouts which had attended the show. It was hard to narrow it down, but here are my favourite three. Although the show was put on by the G Scale Society, it was very much a 'Large Scale' show.

The first layout which caught my eye was built by Stephen Howard. It a G45 live steam, fully scenic end to end layout called 'Hambleden Valley'. This layout also won the Best in Show prize.

The second layout which I had an interest in was a 16mm layout based on a Welsh narrow gauge slate quarry. This layout was called 'Melin Llechi' and was built by Tony Hill.

Finally, a Gauge 1 layout made by the Gauge 1 Yorkshire Group called 'Moordale'.

I would personally like to thank the G Scale Society for the invitation to their show and also to everyone who came to our stand to say hello!
