The London Festival of Railway Modelling

23rd - 24th March 2019

Matt Taylor

MATT TAYLOR reports back from this recent show at Alexandra Palace.

With Spring in the air, Gaugemaster attended the London Festival of Railway Modelling at the Alexandra Palace in North London last weekend. Jack, Ian and I were in attendance this year alongside our show-stopping Fleischmann Layout, which many of you may remember was on show at our Open Weekend in 2018.

We travelled up on Friday morning to set up the stand. Being one of the nearer shows to home, the relatively short drive before having to build is very welcome.

The stand was finished by late afternoon, and we were ready for the weekend to come.

Over the weekend the show was busiest on the Saturday. We put this down to the effects of works at Waterloo Station on the Sunday, which may have meant a lot of people decided to attend Saturday instead of the Sunday. The three of us enjoyed the weekend, its great to get out and meet customers in such a nice setting. We thank everyone who attended the show and our stand.

Alexandra Palace Show

As I said earlier, this year we brought along our Fleischmann layout which is still in the process of being restored. It's a great showcase for European model railways and measuring and incredible eight metres by two metres.

Taking a look around the show away from our stand, I was impressed with this handmade bridge on Johnstown Road, an O Scale layout displayed by Barrowmore Model Railway Group.

The water effects on Burntisland 1883 really stood out to me as some excellent scenic modelling. This P4 layout was built by the East of Scotland 4mm Group.

I would like to say thank you to everyone who came to the show and to Deluxe Materials for the fish and chips on Saturday evening! See you all next year.

Over the summer it doesn't stop at Gaugemaster - We have our Bahnfest event on 14th April at our HQ in Sussex where we showcase our vast range of continental brands including Fleischmann, Marklin, Piko and Trix. We will be also visiting Nottingham to show off our G Scale ranges at The Garden Railway Show on the 19th May, and the Sunday after we have our own G Scale Day down in what we hope will be a sunny Sussex. See our Events page for more details!
