PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT - DCC Concepts Street Lighting

Over the last few years the serious side of the modelling hobby has grown, and more attention to detail is being paid than ever before. The scenery and trackwork are now seamlessly blended into the townscape around them, and pre-built buildings and kits are becoming more detailed, with guttering and curtains being fitted as standard. There is however one thing missing from many layouts on the exhibition circuit, and that is lighting. Because of the way layouts are exhibited (being shown in generally well lit venues with lighting rigs) street and building lighting is overlooked. In a general setting; a spare room, loft conversion, or corner of an office, any form of lighting would be a welcome addition.

Have we all forgotten the thrill of turning down the lights in the room and seeing our Pullman train with full interior lighting whizzing through the modelled landscape? How about seeing the glow of the platform lights as the guard finishes his shift and heads home for dinner? Where ever your layout, a little bit of scenic lighting would be beneficial and adds to the realism. Now, using the range of lighting from DCC Concepts, the time couldn't be better to add to you layout.

Over the years street lighting has changed from hand-lit oil lamps to gas lights, and on through from light bulbs to modern lights with energy efficient LEDs. DCC Concepts caters for it all of these. Despite their company name, their lights are not just for digital layouts - they can be used as easily on analogue layouts.

Within the range there is lighting to suite any period and region of layout. The oil, gas, and swan-neck lamps are all available in Southern, London Midland and Great Western colour schemes. The free standing lamps are available in packs of three as well as being included in the value packs with the additional wall mounted lamps of the same style, which are also available separately.

For the Modern Image modellers the range also included sets of both single and double headed lights found on many stations across the UK. The range is not just limited to that of station fixtures, and DCC Concepts provide Barley Twist and Taper Post lamps for all your street and town lighting as well.

All of the lamps are made from highly accurate brass parts scaled truly for OO scale models, but can also easily be used on any HO scale models without looking out of place.
Included in the packets of lights is a printed circuit board for every lamp. This is pre-fitted with three resistors with varying strength to allow you to choose the brightness of your lights. As an addition, there is a light control board that gives the user complete adjustment by way of a variable resistor, adjusted with a small screwdriver. Although these lamps are a premium price compared to some of the other manufacturers, none are as refined, scaled, or even as true to the prototypes as these - and are therefore a must for all those wanting to take the quality of their layouts to the next level!
