Vollmer New Items and Highlights 2018

JULIAN LILLEY looks at new and established items from Vollmer.

Vollmer -The Brand

Vollmer were founded in Germany eighty years ago, with range of thirteen items of model catenary. Since then the range has now expanded to around one-thousand different high precision plastic model railway buildings, and other scenic accessories. The Vollmer range is mainly in HO/OO and N with a few options in other scales like TT, Z and G.

In 2014 the brand was taken over by Viessmann which is a natural progression, as many of their products complement the Vollmer buildings, such as lighting and sound effects, and automated door motors. Since the takeover the products have been rebranded in bright modern packaging with clear illustrations showing what comes in the box.

The mouldings are exceptionally detailed, with very crisp detail. As in real buildings, often the brick work will have the occasional rough finish which really adds to the realism. Add some weathering and you will have a stunning lifelike model.

HO Scale Items 2018

The item that stood out for me this year was the beautifully moulded stonemasons house complete with LED lights. A large part of the kit is made of Steinkunst (Stone Art) which is a hand made product exclusive to Vollmer. It is made out of moulded quartz sand, and you touch it does feel like real stone. You can view a video on Vollmer's website on how to use the Steinkunst range. Plus you can download a leaflet showing all the products.

To compliment the kit, they have introduced Stonemasons accessories. You can further enhance the scene add the Viessmann animated eMotion stonemason, who can be seen hammering on his chisel with his mallet with an underfloor drive unit.

Further additions to the stone art range are the cobblestone road ways. I thought the Cobblestone plate would add incredible realism to a village market scene. They also produce curves in different radii.

N Scale Items 2018

In N Scale, the only new item this year was this rather quaint shed/henhouse complete with rustic wooden fence.

As there not much has come out in N Scale, let's look at what other interesting items are available. I have always thought the offering of 1970s town buildings was very poor until I came across this set in the Vollmer range. With a few minor tweaks they would sit comfortable on a British or European modern town or city scene.
