DetailsThe Type 27 Wickham trolley was a medium-duty, open-topped inspection and gang vehicle introduced by British Railways in 1948. More than 600 units were built up until 1990, with 25 supplied to the Ministry of Supply and Ministry of Defence between 1954 and 1960. Early models often carried rear benches for track workers, while some later versions replaced this area with tool storage, generators or compressors and could tow a small trailer—though this limited them to a two-person crew. Powered initially by JAP vee-twin engines, later examples used more common Ford Anglia car engines with gearbox and chain-drive transmission. |
