In 1988 the DB Autozug range already comprised 2,929 auto trains and 484 D-trains with vehicle transport. In 2017, ÖBB took over car train traffic from Deutsche Bahn AG and incorporated it into its Nightjet night train division. Four-axle car transport wagons of the type DDm915 that were procured in the 1970s are used. The wagons were initially manufactured by Waggonbau Graff and later by Waggonfabrik Uerdingen. In 1971, the Austrian Federal Railways procured ten DDm98-80 cars from the Uerdingen wagon factory, which are very similar to the DB's DDm915s.
