DetailsThe TGV Sud-Est was the first generation of France’s high-speed TGV trains, introduced for service on the LGV Sud-Est line between Paris and Lyon, Europe’s inaugural high-speed rail route. Entering service in 1981, these trains initially reached a maximum speed of 260 km/h, which increased to 270 km/h in 1983, surpassing the operating speed of Japan’s Shinkansen at the time. Over subsequent decades, upgrades to both the trainsets and the line enabled operating speeds of up to 300 km/h. The TGV Sud-Est remained in service for many years, becoming an iconic symbol of French engineering and high-speed rail innovation. |
