The Austrian steam locomotives of the U series were among the most built narrow-gauge steam locomotives in Europe. 54 of these locomotives, which weigh 24 tons and are 7.2 meters long, were built between 1894 and 1922 for various narrow-gauge railroads in what was then Austria-Hungary. With an output of 225 hp and a top speed of 35 km / h, they met all the requirements placed on them. Even today, some of them are still in use on various museum railways, including the U2 of the Zillertalbahn, built in 1900, which runs between Jenbach and Mayrhofen in Tyrol.
