DetailsThe Saxon Pride – An Imposing Icon of German Steam Power Known for their refined traditions and strong sense of identity, the Saxons once took great pride in operating their own state railway. In the years leading up to the First World War, the Saxon Machine Factory in Chemnitz commissioned what would become one of the most powerful express steam locomotives of its era. The result was a truly formidable engine: - Four driving axles
- An impressive 1,800 hp output
- A service weight of 162 tonnes
Designed to excel on the demanding gradients of the Saxon Highlands, this mighty locomotive entered service between 1918 and 1923, with the final examples delivered to the newly formed Deutsche Reichsbahn. Designated Class 19.0, the fleet even operated for a time in Swabia. Their exceptional performance soon earned them the affectionate nickname “Saxon Pride.” After 1945, the East German State Railway (DR) relied heavily on the remaining 19.0s, undertaking major overhauls and partial reconstructions to keep these powerful machines running. Their long and demanding service finally came to an end in 1958 after decades of hauling heavy express trains. Now, this legendary locomotive returns in miniature as a highly detailed Trix model, capturing the elegance, strength, and engineering brilliance of the original. With its fine detailing and advanced technical features, the Trix “Saxon Pride” is certain to stand out as a true highlight in any model railway collection. |
