At first glance the SI type did not appear much different from its predecessor the R type but it was entirely new, with a host of improvements. The S type was officially introduced in April 1955 and our version is based on a car launched a year later in 1956. The bodywork features the famous Mulliner fastback styling in shell grey - to give it the original paint colour - but it is in effect silver, with a black interior. In real life, the majority had automatic gearboxes although a very small number - only about 16 - were fitted with a manual gearbox. Power steering also became an option from 1956 onwards.
