DetailsWe’re delighted to introduce the new PECO detailed laser-cut wood kits, capturing the charm and character of a typical 1960s-style semi-detached block. Designed with precision and realism in mind, each kit includes detailed front and rear elevations, along with the option to assemble a fully enclosed building. Each pair of houses can also be joined with others to create an extended terrace, offering flexibility for a wide range of model railway layouts. An optional front porch is included, and there’s scope for interior detailing to add personal touches (materials not included). These kits make an excellent companion to PECO’s earlier Victorian House releases – kits NB306, NB307, and NB308 – all in N scale. For enhanced realism, additional accessories from the Ratio range can be added, such as 300 Guttering and Downpipes or 307 Chimneys. Together, they allow you to bring authentic 1960s suburban character and architectural detail to your model railway scene with true PECO quality and precision. Step back into Britain’s post-war suburban boom with this detailed model of a 1960s British semi-detached house. Reflecting a period of recovery and optimism, these homes became a symbol of growing prosperity and the nation’s move toward modern suburban living. Designed to be affordable, practical, and family-friendly, semi-detached houses of the 1960s offered the perfect balance of space, comfort, and style. Typically built from brick or concrete with clean geometric lines, these houses embraced the modernist aesthetic of the time. Features such as large windows, central heating, and private gardens made them ideal for contemporary lifestyles. Unlike their ornate Victorian or interwar predecessors, the 1960s semi favoured functional design and minimal ornamentation, reflecting the era’s forward-thinking spirit. Many were constructed on the outskirts of growing cities, forming part of new housing estates supported by expanding road networks and increasing car ownership. This architectural style has since become a defining feature of Britain’s mid-20th-century suburban landscape — a lasting reminder of innovation, optimism, and community. This model captures the character and charm of the classic 1960s British semi-detached home, making it the perfect addition to any model railway layout or architectural diorama set in the post-war period. |
