Details

From 1933, the Deutsche Reichsbahn introduced the first electric locomotives featuring the CoCo axle arrangement, characterised by two bogie frames connected by a central frame. These locomotives, classified as the E 93 series, were extensively developed in the late 1930s, leading to the creation of the powerful E 94 freight locomotives.

A total of 146 E 94 locomotives were built between 1940 and 1945. Known for their exceptional robustness, these locomotives became the backbone of electric freight transport in southern Germany for over four decades. Their distinctive green paintwork and articulated body earned them the nickname ‘German Crocodile’.

  • Historic CoCo Axle Design: Innovative two-bogie frame with central connecting frame configuration.
  • Extensive Production: 146 powerful E 94 locomotives constructed during 1940-1945.
  • Key Role: Dominated electric freight transport in southern Germany for more than 40 years.
  • Distinctive Features: Iconic green colour and articulated body style led to the ‘German Crocodile’ nickname.
  • Technical Details: Digital control for cab and engine room lighting via retrofitted decoder, two metal scissor pantographs, and highly detailed cab and engine room equipment.

This detailed model faithfully represents the engineering excellence and historic significance of the E 94 locomotive, making it a prized addition for collectors and enthusiasts of classic German electric freight locomotives.
