Details

The Luhansk locomotive factory developed a robust six-axle diesel-electric locomotive based on the SZD TE10 series, originally built from 1958 to haul heavy goods trains. The first two prototypes, M62 01 and M62 02, were delivered to the SZD in 1964. Between 1966 and 1975, the Deutsche Reichsbahn acquired a total of 378 locomotives from this series.

A distinctive characteristic of the initial M62 delivery series was the absence of a silencer, which led to the locomotive earning the nickname ‘Taiga drum’ in the GDR due to its loud exhaust noise.

  • Heavy Freight Power: Designed for demanding goods train operations with a six-axle diesel-electric configuration.
  • Proven Heritage: Based on the SZD TE10 series dating from 1958.
  • Extensive Service: 378 units purchased by the Deutsche Reichsbahn between 1966 and 1975.
  • Distinctive Sound: Early models lacked a silencer, earning the nickname ‘Taiga drum’ for their distinctive exhaust noise.
  • Historical Significance: Key locomotive in Eastern European freight transport during its era.

This detailed model captures the engineering strength and iconic presence of the M62 locomotive, making it a prized addition for collectors and enthusiasts of classic diesel freight locomotives.
