DetailsFrom 1973, Fablok developed a six-axle locomotive based on the SM42, initially intended for export to the CMEA countries, though this plan was never realised. Starting in 1976, the Polish State Railways (PKP) acquired 167 of these machines, classifying them as SM31 003 to 169. An additional 28 units were produced to meet industrial demands, alongside two prototypes that were not taken over by PKP. However, contrary to expectations, the CoCo axle arrangement proved unsuitable for industrial applications, leading to many units being decommissioned or sold to PKP. - Developed by Fablok: Six-axle locomotive based on the SM42 design from 1973.
