DetailsFollowing the success of Poland’s first mainline diesel locomotive, the SP45 series, the Polish State Railways sought a more powerful model capable of handling heavy, high-quality passenger services. This led to the development of the SU46 series, featuring advancements such as electric train heating and an optimised design for the driver’s cabs and locomotive body, characterised by corrugated side walls. After initial issues with the prototype locomotives SU46-001 and SU46-002 were resolved, the Poznan-based manufacturer Cegielski produced a further 50 SU46 locomotives between 1976 and 1977, cementing its role as a reliable workhorse for demanding passenger transport. - Enhanced Power: Designed to improve on the capabilities of the SP45 series for heavy passenger trains.
- Modern Features: Included electric train heating and production-optimised cab and body design.
- Reliable Performance: Early prototype challenges were swiftly addressed to ensure operational efficiency.
- Manufacturing Excellence: Produced by the renowned Cegielski company in Poznan.
- Significant Fleet: 50 locomotives delivered between 1976 and 1977 for widespread service.
This model accurately represents the engineering advancements and historical importance of the SU46 locomotive, making it a valuable addition for railway enthusiasts and collectors. |
