DetailsThe Luhansk locomotive factory engineered a robust six-axle diesel-electric locomotive, drawing on the proven SZD TE10 series design introduced in 1958. Built to handle heavy goods transport, the first two prototypes, designated M62 01 and M62 02, were delivered to the Soviet Railways (SZD) in 1964. From 1966 to 1975, the Deutsche Reichsbahn acquired a substantial fleet of 378 locomotives from this series. Notably, the initial production models lacked a silencer, producing a distinctive exhaust noise that earned them the nickname ‘Taiga drum’ within the GDR. - Heavy Haul Power: Designed specifically for demanding freight operations.
- Proven Engineering: Based on the established TE10 series platform.
- Distinctive Sound: Early models’ absence of a silencer gave rise to the ‘Taiga drum’ moniker.
- Significant Deployment: Widely adopted by Deutsche Reichsbahn with 378 units in service.
- Historical Relevance: A locomotive that symbolised strength and utility across Eastern European rail networks.
This model faithfully reflects the unique character and operational legacy of the M62, making it a compelling choice for collectors and railway enthusiasts. |
