Set of 2 supplementary wagons for the PIKO ICE 4 of the DB AG Ep. VI. In 2011, Deutsche Bahn AG commissioned Siemens Mobility to build up to 300 new high-speed trains for use in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The new railcars of the BR 412/812, which are jointly developed by Siemens and Bombardier, are powered by several cars, so-called Powercars. The train configuration provides various modular units of five-part to 14-part trains. With this concept, the train can be easily adapted to the individual requirements of the transport companies for the desired acceleration, speed and number of seats. The DB has ordered as a basic configuration 85 twelve- and 45 seven-unit trainsets, which consist of non-powered end or control car, powered Sitzwagen and Bordbistro and non-powered seat, dining and service cars exist. The seven-car train has three powered cars and offers 456 seats over a length of 200 meters. A twelve-unit multiple unit has six powered cars and 830 seats over a length of 346 meters. The top speed is 250 km / h. The outer shape was based on the existing ICE fleet and further developed. Since December 2017, the first trains have been in regular operation on the lines Hamburg-Würzburg, Stuttgart-Munich and Hamburg-Berlin-Munich.
