Set of 2 extension cars for the PIKO ICE 4 of the DB AG Ep. VI. In 2011, Deutsche Bahn AG commissioned Siemens Mobility to build up to 300 new high-speed trains for use in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The new BR 412/812 multiple units, which are jointly developed by Siemens and Bombardier, are powered by several cars, so-called power cars. The train configuration provides different modular units from five-part to 14-part trains. With this concept, the train can be easily adapted to the individual requirements of the transport company at the desired acceleration, speed and number of seats. The DB has so far ordered 85 twelve- and 45 seven-car multiple units as basic configuration, which consist of unpowered end or control cars, powered seating cars and on-board bistro as well as non-powered seating, dining and service cars. The seven-car multiple unit has three powered cars and offers 456 seats over a length of 200 meters. A twelve-car multiple unit has six powered cars and 830 seats over a length of 346 meters. The top speed is 250 km / h. The outer shape was based on the existing ICE fleet and developed further. Since December 2017, the first trains have been in regular service on the Hamburg – Würzburg, Stuttgart – Munich and Hamburg – Berlin – Munich lines.
