Details

The Northern Rail franchise, which began in December 2004, inherited a diverse fleet from Arriva Trains Northern and First North Western, including numerous Class 153 single units. Locomotive 153360 became a familiar sight on services in the Carlisle area, including the scenic Settle and Carlisle line and the Cumbria coastal route to Barrow-in-Furness. Its successor, Arriva Rail North, continued to operate the largest fleet of Class 153 units in the UK. After going into storage in late 2021, 153360 was eventually scrapped, marking the end of its service life but leaving a lasting legacy in regional British rail operations.
