DetailsIn the early 1990s, the Czechoslovak State Railways (CSD) faced a shortage of locomotives capable of providing electric train heating, due to the increasing number of passenger cars equipped with this feature. Following successful retrofits on the 753 series, the railway decided to equip all diesel locomotives used in passenger service with electric train heating. The T 478.3 locomotives, known as "Diving Goggles," were among those converted and continued to operate in Slovakia after the state division. To differentiate the upgraded locomotives from the original version, they were reclassified as series 750, while retaining their original serial numbers. These retrofitted "Diving Goggles" combined the distinctive design and robust performance of the original locomotives with modernised passenger service capabilities, ensuring their continued use well into the post-Czechoslovak era. |
