The Opel Senator served as Opel’s flagship executive saloon from 1978 to 1993, offering refined engineering, strong performance and advanced technology for its era. Introduced alongside the Monza coupé, the first-generation Senator (Senator A) was built on the GM V-platform and featured powerful straight-six engines, a spacious interior and high levels of comfort, positioning it as a serious contender in the European luxury car market. In 1987, Opel launched the second-generation Senator B, featuring more aerodynamic styling, improved suspension systems and a range of modernised engines. The model also introduced advanced equipment for the time, including electronic driver aids and luxury interior upgrades. While praised for its comfort, stability and long-distance capability, the Senator gradually faced increased competition from premium German rivals. Production of the Opel Senator ended in 1993, with no direct successor in Opel’s line-up. Today, the Senator is appreciated by enthusiasts for its understated elegance, smooth performance and important role in Opel’s executive-car history. For model collectors, it represents a classic example of late-20th-century German luxury engineering. |
