The nickname "bathtub" was by no means intended as a derogatory term for the Taunus P3. Quite the opposite! In the post-war years, the bathtub symbolised comfort, enjoyment, and the rising prosperity of West Germany's economic miracle. And indeed, the Taunus P3 offered something of the feel of a comfortable sedan chair, allowing its occupants to glide smoothly over the newly paved roads. Ford's top-of-the-line model from Cologne, which WIKING used as its prototype, appeared more functional and was considerably more economical and practical than its predecessors. Its redesigned body, featuring more organic curves, even delivered a remarkable 20% reduction in fuel consumption. |
