In 1973, the technically and visually completely renewed model series ""New Generation"" was presented in Wörth, which from then on was only distributed as ""NG"". The modular design in the successor to the cubic series made medium and heavy weight classes possible with one and the same basic model. As early as 1969, the production capacity in Wörth had been gradually increased to up to 100,000 units a year. But already in 1975 Mercedes-Benz exceeded this mark with the construction of 105,200 trucks - the ""NG"" series had arrived on the market. The highly flexible production that began in 1973, strictly based on the modular system, was intended to make Mercedes-Benz indispensable on construction sites.
