Ratio Plastic Model Kits
Ratio produce O gauge (1:43.5 scale), OO Gauge (1:76) and N Gauge (1:148) models. They are a small company based in Buckfastleigh, South Devon. They produce a range of buildings and accessories for British modellers. Included in their range are railways buildings, signals, and wagon & coach kits.
Ratio Scale models was founded in 1950 by Jack and Dave Webster in Chorleywood, Herefordshire. They started by producing coach kits made of sheet plywood pressing, which became acclaimed as the finest mass-production models of their day. In 1959 Ratio started making plastic kits and the company name was changed to Ratio Plastic Models. The factory was moved to goring-on-Thames in 1961 and again to Sturminster Newton in 1972 to a purpose built factory. With space to develop, the product range grew, which in turn led to a move even further west to a larger space on the top floor of an old Buckfastleigh woollen mill in 1986. Roger Webster, the managing director, sold Ratio to PECO in 1996 and so started a new era. Even with PECO owning Ratio it is still produced in the Buckfastleigh woollen mill.
 Ratio offer a wide range of N scale products for the British modeller. with a selection of Station Buildings to scenic structures enough to enhance and model railway. In the N gauge Trackside series Ratio offer a selection of buildings from stations, signal boxes, water towers and footbridges. Also the trackside series include street lamps to telegraph poles. In N gauge Ratio also offer a selection of semaphore signals with a kit available to make them remote control using a lever switch on a base board.
In the OO scale Ratio offer the same as in N scale but with a greater variety of products available. In the OO scale Trackside series Ratio offer a kits like a carriage shed to a coaling station. Also everything you would need to make a goods yard including a yard crane to a oil depot. In OO Ratio also offer a selection of fencing for different regions around the UK including GWR, LMS and SR fencing. In OO Signal range Ratio offer a more complete range of signals from SR home signals to a LNER lattice post signals. Wagon and Van kits are also available in OO with highlights like the BR Banana Van. Coaches are also available in kits for modellers looking for a challenge to build an entire train from scratch. In O gauge Ratio also offer a small selection of kits including a GWR home signal and some telegraph poles.
