As early as the 1930s, there was an increasing shift in passenger transport from the railroad to cars and airplanes in the USA. In order to avoid a complete decline in passenger train traffic, Amtrak was founded in 1971, a semi-public company that took over the passenger traffic of the railroad companies that were mainly focused on freight traffic. Existing rolling stock from the predecessor railways was taken over for operation, including the famous F7 and Streamliner express train passenger cars. In a very short time, the vehicles were repainted in the new look with a silver base color and red / white / blue stripes. With these vehicles the traffic was started in May 1971, whereby the famous names of the trains were partly retained. So there was still the "Sunset Limited", that operated between New Orleans and Los Angeles. Today, of course, Amtrak has more modern locomotives with the Superliner double-decker cars, but these models show how it all began 50 years ago. This is a model of an EMD type F7 A-Unit diesel locomotive for the American passenger transport company Amtrak. The paint scheme and lettering are prototypical for Era IV. Both bogies are driven by powerful Bühler motors with ball bearings, traction tires. Built-in mfx / DCC decoder with various light and sound functions, digitally switchable. Built-in socket at the rear end of the locomotive to supply the loudspeaker from the decoder of the A-unit with the appropriate B-Unit. Many separately applied details, driver's cab doors that can be opened. Length over the coupling 61 cm. The matching B-Unit is available under number 21581, another A-Unit with a different company number under number 21582. With the new Amtrak cars, which are also available, a typical express train of Era IV - e.g. the famous "Sunset Limited" can be formed become. Driving sounds also work in analog mode.
