Former standard ambulance of the local DRK associations The VW T1 was one of the most important vehicles of the German Red Cross (DRK) in large numbers from the 1950s to well into the 1970s. It is not uncommon for the ambulance vehicles to last for many decades, but only a manageable kilometer under their belts before they were scrapped. For Volkswagen, the still sparse, albeit functional, equipment of aid organizations of all stripes was a highly profitable business, especially since the vehicles could already be ordered and equipped at the factory. VW once used a 1:40 advertising model of an ambulance from WIKING to win the buyers' favor. WIKING shows the typical emergency vehicle of a local DRK club. Body with fan and warning light base light ivory, interior fittings olive gray. The headlights are transparent red at the rear and transparent at the front, with silver coloring underneath. Black steering wheel and chassis. Light ivory rims. Front and rear bumpers light ivory. Blue transparent warning light used. A red cross and chrome rings for indicators are printed on the front. Lateral printing with a red cross and the words "Deutsches Rotes Kreuz". Front round lamp on the roof forehead printed with a red cross on a white background.
